The First New Post

Finally. My first post for the new school year. So, lets start from the beginning.

The trip back to New York went over very smoothly. A quick 6 and a half hour drive into the city with an exciting view of my building as we approached the lincoln tunnel to finally leave behind the classiness and car dealerships in Jersey. First week back in New York was amazing ; it went by too quickly but it was nice to get back to my niche: artsy-fartsy, diva-star, complainy, crazy and only black outfits of FIT. It felt and feels great to get back to school, especially after my internship this summer.
My 9 classes this semester are as follows: three liberal arts: tennis, math, introduction to world affairs (an online course) along with six design classes: digital layout 2 (indesign), designing with type, flash animation, advertising design and concepts, print making and last but not least adobe photoshop (i forget the real name). 30 hours later...
The work load hasn't been that bad. I've had enough time to enjoy myself in the city. But before i get to the fun stuff, ill finish up with my classes.

My adobe photoshop class, monday morning at 8 am, has been good so far. My teacher, who gives out way to much information about himself, for example the fact that i know that he used to be 380 pound before he found his wife cheating on him with his best friend and after the divorce he lost over 150 pounds and that he works all night long and only gets 2-3 hours of sleep every day, has custody over his son, is about to get fired from the FIT faculty because the same professors that didn't like him as a student don't like him as a teacher at FIT (he was a student at FIT) ...is that a bit too much information? Anyhow, he proves himself as a teacher. Straight to the point. His assignment are a bit questionable for the program, but he wants us to design..which makes sense considering we are design students. Right now we are working on postcards for a hypothetical auction type event for furniture design. I chose to sell Phillipe Stark's furniture. I will upload my first drafts of the assignment.

After adobe, on monday, is Designing with type, from 12 - 3. Ron York is the name of my teacher and let me tell you, he is a character. Here's a story...second class: everyone puts up their work for their 2 letter logo (made of their initials) for a critique. His critiques are amazing; he's tough on students but i mean he speaks the truth. Im happy to know he'll push me until my work is great. Back to the story... to sum it up...Ron York asks me if i have a boyfriend, if i control him, if i do drugs, and proceeds to tell me i am too controlling, too neat, too organized and should either find some drugs or have a few glasses of wine before i do my homework to "loosen up a bit". I wrote it down as my homework...
The projects we have had or are working on are: 1. a logo made form your two initials 2, a letterhead , business card and envelope (with your logo) and 3 to redo an add for the King Tut exhibit (i will post it at the bottom) and our newest project due next week is create a perrier add. Im already brainstorming for perrier, its a tough one.. they always have such create adds..its going to be hard to compete with. Check out their new melting campaign.

Flash animation if fun. Im taking it monday nights with Freddie. The class is finally allowing me to perfect my flash skills. Im excited to see my final project - which is focused on building a character.

My advertising class is amazing. My teacher is really great and smart - she has worked in the advertising business her whole life and has been very successful so she knows what she's talking about. We've done three projects so far: 1. redo a bad add 2. she gaves us pictures of animals - we have to choose one and then create an add around it. Ill post mine bellow, i choose the picture of the bear and decided to create an add for Urban Dictionary. 3. we got articles (one about a maze and one about a mine that apparently relieves people from cataracts and warts and other lovely things). I did an add for both of them and will post them below.

My digital layout class is great too - our big project that we are already working on is creating a 20 page magazine. Im very excited about it.

Last but not least, printmaking. My printmaking class has been really fun. My teacher is a bit special.. and has a slight resemblance to Ms Frizzle..but as long as you know how to handle her temper..its all good. I haven't been that happy with my compositions - so far we have done a monotype and a hardground print (carving into plexiglass). but learning the process and the craft has been a good change from computer and type work.

Tennis, math and intro to world affairs speak for themselves. Tennis is a great relief... yes i still love gym class. Im also taking it with freddie. Math is... yea its beyond easy.. i mean i guess thats okay right. and Intro to world affairs is my first online class...its okay. Im learning some stuff.. but i think i like the dynamics of a classroom better.

Okay, so i think this post is long enough. I am going to post my work up in the next posts.
Ill post by the end of this week to talk about my birthday celebrations, dan black, the xx, brooklyn flea market, mia's visit and ali's visit!

bisous
