this past week has been more than amazing. I finally got all my work done and had my first class critiques. They went amazingly well. Both teachers loved what i had done! I'll get pictures up soon of my work. its nothing too exciting, but its a start. for my foundation class, our entire course is centralized around the concept of the grid...so its a bit dull but it makes sense considering we all want to be designers and design in based on grids haha..yea see it makes a lot of sense. otherwise, my classes have been great. i adore my type class, my teacher is great as i've said before. our first assignment was to great a 27th letter in the alphabet for the typeface Bondoni. my sketches were actually really funny, i drew this one that looked like a pregnant lady, (its the second one in the picture on the first row) so after that everytime i raised my hand to see what the teacher thought, he would just laugh. after a few hes like "wow i guess this is how they do it in canada!" haha anyways, i finally came up with one and i'll try to take a picture of the final one later today.

otherwise, this week was the start of fashion week and Fashion Night Out. http://www.fashionsnightout.com/ this is the link that explains what it is..basically it was in 11 (i think) different cities and it was trying to stimulate the economy and trying to get people to buy and get into fashion. I went out with my coworker David (from the teenflo head office, who was in town) and it was more than glamorous. All of the flagship stores..actualy basically all the upscale stores had parties; you walk in and there's champagne and a dj and you're surround by people that are important in the world...it was such a scene. we saw rachel zoe, the stylist, the designers of proenza schouler, the designer of rag and bone and after a long long wait with crazy children, teenagers and diva's ...we saw the olsen
twins, i don't even think i'm going to get into that because i might rant on for a bit haha
but it was something to see! haha after that we went to the most amazing place for dinner
called Zamba in the meat packing district, it was very montreal, exposed brick wall and
amazing tuna tartar..which was just amazing in comparison to cafeteria food...i slightly
died. anyways it was a great night, the streets were hoping and it was really something
to see.
friday i had my first photography class and loved it. Im so excited to start using film again.
i dropped my photos off yesterday so they should be ready by monday, but meanwhile i'll
post up a picture my friend took of me.
Friday night i went to something called Rooftop films (http://www.rooftopfilms.com/summerseries.html)
basically this organization that shows short indie films throughout the summer on rooftops...with my
friend Garret that i hadn't seen in two years. The films were amazing. However, it was raining so we
didn't get to see it on a roof, but it was great regardless. Daniela i couldn't stop thinking about how much
you would enjoy it. They had, i think about 10...a mix of documentary, animation, animation just with music
and some with a story line and then short films. This is one of the links to one of the animations i LOVED.
http://www.bitterfilms.com/ it was called I'm so proud of you. It was really funny and just great.
Otherwise, saturday i went to the richard avedon exhibit....it was AMAZING. i almost cried ..AGAIN, in a
museum but i held myself back to stop myself from looking like a lunatic. It was really cool because last
summer i got to see his Great Depression/Dust Bowl stuff when he went throughout middle america and
did his series of portraits of mundane people. This exhibit had all of his fashion photography. Most of the
photos were from paris and it made me miss it so much..but they were so glamorous and after having my
photography class, it was great to see his technique..and it just made me that much more excited about
everything. On the way home..it wasn't very nice it was raining and really grey outside so i got a hot
chocolate..i know this is random but i do have a point. So, in the morning on my way to work i get a coffee
or tea...like any new yorker right. and in this case yesterday a hot chocolate. so i've adapted to the fast
pace of walking...but the thing that you dont realise..it how hard it is to walk FAST with starbucks coffee...
so i'm walking yesterday..i take a sip and it EXPLODES in my face...but through the little hole..i felt completely
incompetent haha and then the other day it kept on exploding and squirting up the top and getting all over the
place..so i decide to try to drink a lot ..but it still does it. so...i'm not truly a new yorker..because i do not know
how to walk with starbucks coffee yet...
last but not least, i found a Macaron place (Jeanne and Alex :) ) yesterday! i'm pretty sure the women was french..
they make them all in the store...so i gave in a bought a few...and let me tell you they are FIERCE competition with
La Durée...they were amazing..and the store is right around the corner from my place :) hourayy

anyways, i don't have many pictures but i'll post up a few soon
12 days till montreal!
xoxo
bisous

i'm just heading out but i'm waiting for some friends so i thought i would put up a quick post. The end of my week was good...a bit overwhelming in terms of work and seeing what our projects for the entire semester are going to be but at the same time, its very exciting. I've been going on run's everynight on the Piers, which is a path right along the Hudson river and the highway. The run is beautiful. The city is completely light up and even at 9:30 at night you see at least 100 people running, biking or roller blading...we saw a commerical being filmed, gossip girl being filmed, a fire with at least 15 fire trucks- leah was very content about running into the hot fire men. Friday was good, i meet up with an old ecs-er Erin waheed and i had a really great time. She's been studying photography at NYU for the last three years so she told me a bit about the city. Otherwise, i went to a "brocante" (i don't know the english word...) - basically this street fair/vintage fair type thing thats a block from my school. A whole bunch of vendors meet up up every weekend to display and sell their stuff. They have anything you can possibly imagine. the pictures will show this... otherwise we came home for a bit, i read my book for an hour outside and a women told me "God Loved me" and handed me a flyer to incorporate Jesus in my life...

Living in new york is full of surprises. My english teacher asked us to write about this topic yesterday morning and i had lots to write about. before i get into school, i forget to update my blog when this happened....

....To explain, my roomate, Kalie is a huge Britney fan. Luckily enough she was playing three times last week at madison square gardens...which is 4 blocks up, a 4 minute walk (basically my house to marianopolis). So, having lived in a city before i was like well just scalp tickets (DUH). Our friend alexa had also done it the night before... So, Kalie went out on a mission to find a scalper. i get a text message saying COME TO 32nd STREET NOW. so, i jump out of my lovley nap, grab my 80$ and try to find her. I find her and she's standing with our friend Jane and a scrawny, oldish looking black guy whos chatting and very happy. So, i give him the money, he gives me back change. He looks at Kalie and says "kalie, i love you", looks at me and says "skinny girl, you fine and you were so worth waiting for", and looks at jane and says something along the lines of "you are a really hot asian" girl. i laughed. houray we have tickets. We head back to our room, having an hour to kill, grab some food and head back. We get to madison square gardens, ask the police man to take a picture of us, walk inside get some britney perfume and then to the lines to scan the tickets. I was the first to go...the guy takes me tickets and scans...and i'm sure you can guess what happened. A big X shows up on the scanner and he tells us to go to the booth to the left of us...we go and without even hesitating the guy takes a big stamp and places COUNTERFEIT on our tickets. I officially learnt my first new york lesson. bbooo. i thought it was pretty funny, it sucked but still...come one..i thought the funniest part was Jane and I are both canadian..obviously we would trust the dude. haha the best comment was Kalie saying, I"M GOING TO HAVE HIM ARRESTED....i replied "kalie, you can't, because you'd be arrested too, buying scalped tickets is illegal"...she didn't really enjoy that comment so she stormed out of the stadium and ran across the street looking for him...don't ask what she was going to do. I'm glad she didn't find him.

Otherwise, i've been shopping in Soho and just been exploring the city. I had my two day of of classes and so far they look promising. my english teacher is an little old women, she wore bright red lipstick, her hair was well done and a little trench jacket and large skirt. she was very chic and she had quite a sense of humour...but her course seems challenging. we'll see how it goes. otherwise, i had a layout class which teacher me Indesign. The projects near the end of semester seems really fun and existing, we get to create things like stationary, brochures, advertising posters and business cards. The teacher seems pretty good. I had my Foundation 1 class, which i found very intimidating and seems like it is going to be very very challenging. Its basically foundation for communication design, so we're going to be working on the basic grid system, which is needed in all layouts and such things in graphic design...and everything is going to be done by hand. The teacher seemed nice, she was young and seems helpful, but looks like a hard grader..anyways we'll see. Then i finally had my art history class, that runs from 6:30 to 9:20. The teacher was old but seems good. Its a rennaissance class so obviously i'm thrilled to learn more about that....yay for art history.. but i'll see if i'll be able to stay awake. Then finally today i had Intro to Typography class. I LOVED this class. My teacher seems AMAZING...garraway has competition..yea he's basically the garaway of design. He knows what he is talking about and you know that hes really helpful and really passionate about what he does. so i'm really really excited about that class. Once again, everything is going to be done by hand and the class is all about fonts, using different fonts, how and when and where and creating different types and also layout. Otherwise, i went to bryant park today, on 41st and avenue of the americas, and read for my english homework. Enjoy. xoxo
